Today (February 28, 2025), at Government House, Assistant Professor Dr. Naphat Rueangnapakul, Associate Dean for Research, Academic Services, and International Affairs, Faculty of Information and Communication, Maejo University, was invited to attend a reception held in honor of Mrs. Helena Lersch, Vice President of Public Policy at TikTok, and her delegation. The event was hosted by Prime Minister Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who also delivered a keynote address highlighting key points as follows:The Prime Minister expressed her pleasure in welcoming the TikTok executives and emphasized the importance of fostering strong business partnerships, driving innovation, and supporting a sustainable digital transformation. She also commended TikTok’s success in Thailand, with over 50 million users, underscoring the platform’s crucial role in connecting people and promoting content creation that contributes to the country’s economic growth.Mrs. Helena Lersch, in her remarks, expressed gratitude for the government’s support and revealed TikTok’s plan to invest an additional 8.8 billion USD over the next five years. She highlighted TikTok’s influence, noting that over 50 million people use the platform, with more than 3 million Thai users engaging with TikTok Shop. Additionally, she discussed TikTok’s commitment to supporting the development of Smart People, a project aimed at fostering digital citizenship and media literacy. This initiative includes educational content development in collaboration with the Faculty of Information and Communication, Maejo University, as part of the university’s General Education (G.E.) Digital Citizenship course, along with partnerships with five other higher education institutions in Thailand.
